Juliana Dorso, née à Rennes en 1990, vit et travaille à Paris, France.

Artiste transdisciplinaire en mouvement, ses médiums de travail intègrent la peinture, le dessin et la narration graphique ainsi que l’installation pour explorer les enjeux autour de l’habitat (collectif, imaginaire, poétique).

Son travail a été présenté dans de nombreuses expositions personnelles et collectives en France et en Europe, dans des institutions telles que le Frac MÉCA et la Fondation Agnès b, ainsi que dans des project-spaces. Elle a été en résidence, entre autres, à La Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris (2024-2025), à Cap Moderne, à Roquebrune Cap-Martin, France (2022), et aux Ateliers Médicis à Passamainty, Mayotte (2019).

Elle a été invitée en résidence à l’automone 2025 au Timor-Leste par la Fondaçao Oriente, la Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris, l’Ambassade de France en Indonésie, au Timor-Leste et auprès de l’A.S.E.A.N. et l’Institut français.

Juliana Dorso a reçu plusieurs bourses notamment celles de l’ADAGP, de la DRAC Bretagne et de la DAC Paris. Son travail fait partie de collections publiques - du Frac MÉCA à Bordeaux, et du Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval, pour laquelle elle a reçu une commande publique -, privées - Fondation Aurelio Petroni en Italie -, et de collections particulières au Royaume-Uni, Belgique, France, Italie, Allemagne et Etats-Unis.

Elle est régulièrement sollicitée pour présenter son travail dans des publications et des articles de presse. Elle est diplômée de Philosophie Contemporaine à Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, de l’Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, et de la Central Saint Martins à Londres.

Juliana Dorso, born in Rennes in 1990, lives and works in Paris, France.

A transdisciplinary artist in motion, her mediums include painting, drawing, graphic storytelling, and installation, through which she explores the issues surrounding the habitat (collective, imaginary and poetic).

Their work have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across France and Europe, in institutions such as Frac MÉCA and the Fondation Agnès b, as well as in project-spaces.

She has been in residencies including the International City of the Arts of Paris (2024–2025), Cap Moderne in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin,
France (2022), and Ateliers Médicis in Passamainty, Mayotte (2019).

She was artist in residence in East Timor in Fall 2025, invited by the Fundação Oriente (Lisbon), the French Institute, the French Ambassady in Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN members and the International City of the Arts of Paris.

Juliana Dorso has received several grants, notably from ADAGP, DRAC Bretagne, and DAC Paris. Their work is held in public collections, such as the Frac MÉCA in Bordeaux and the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval (for which they received a public commission), as well as private ones, including the Aurelio Petroni Foundation in Italy and private collectors in the UK, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, and the United States.

They are regularly invited to present their work in publications and press articles. They hold a master’s degree in Contemporary Philosophy from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She also graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, and from Central Saint Martins in London.

Juliana Dorso questionne les frontières entre la fiction et la non-fiction, le rêve et le désir, l’intime et le collectif, l’espace intérieur et celui extérieur, et dans cette recherche au long cours, Alain.e, son van, est devenu un moteur essentiel.

Après un long cycle de recherche où Juliana part sur les traces de Virginia Woolf en quête de ses lieux de vie et ses jardins (2011), elle ancre son travail autour des notions d’habitat. Un habitat peut-il être nomade ? Peut-il être permanent quand il est soumis à l’impermanence du contexte et de l’environnement ? En quoi un “lieu à soi” peut-il être collectif ?

De l’habitation à l’habitacle en passant par l’habit de peinture, son nouvel axe de recherche se focalise sur le queer tuning.

« Le queer tuning, tel que défini par l’artiste, est une façon de fabriquer un espace personnel nomade, intégrant des dimensions affectives, littéraires et artistiques. Il s’agit de questionner la pratique du tuning automobile, liée à la beauté formelle et à une démonstration de puissance, sous un autre angle, celui du soin, du care, du lien social.» Anne-Cécile Maddedu pour le Frac MÉCA.

Le queer tuning vise à pratiquer un care hors des sentiers battus et à repenser un imaginaire non-oppressif quant à la pratique automobile. Autant un horizon qu’un présent amorcé, le queer tuning est aussi une façon de sortir de l’isolement et de tracer des lignes entre différents territoires géographiques, esthétiques et de sociabilités.

Juliana Dorso mobilise des groupes d’individus lors de ses réalisations afin de témoigner d’une mémoire collective liée aux émotions du safe place.

Juliana Dorso explores the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction, dream and desire, the intimate and the collective, interior and exterior space. In this long-term research, Alain.e, their van, has become a creative driving force.

Following an extended research journey retracing the steps of Virginia Woolf through her homes and gardens (2011), Juliana’s work began to focus on notions of habitat. Can a habitat be nomadic? Can it be permanent when it is subjected to the impermanence of context and environment? To what extent can “a room of one’s own” be collective?

From habitation, to vehicle interior, to painted clothing, their recent research centers on the concept of queer tuning.

“Queer tuning, as defined by the artist, is a way of creating a personal, nomadic space that integrates affective, literary, and artistic dimensions. It challenges car tuning culture, traditionally linked to formal beauty and displays of power, by reframing it through the lens of care, social connection, and tenderness.” - Anne-Cécile Maddedu, Frac MÉCA.

Queer tuning is about finding new ways of practicing care and rethinking a non-oppressive imagery around automobile practices. It is both a horizon and a present reality—a means of breaking isolation and drawing lines between different geographic, aesthetic, and social territories.

Juliana Dorso involves groups of people in their work to document collective memory tied to the emotional experience of safe spaces.
